The Defend Dignity Survivor Support Fund was created to provide accessible financial support to individuals who have experienced sexual exploitation, in any form, such as prostitution, sex trafficking, escorting, survival sex, working in massage parlours, strip clubs, or involvement in pornography. The department of Criminal Intelligence Service Canada estimates that a Canadian victim of sex trafficking earns approximately $280,000 a year for her exploiter. Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

PSALM 82:3-4

The story of Bathsheba and King David told in 2 Samuel 11 often focuses on the adultery of David as displeasing to God. However, we must recognize the blatant power abuse by King David that led to the sexual encounter in the first place. Bathsheba’s powerlessness against David’s authority, and the loss she suffered as a result, seem to fade into the background of this multi-layered and complex story. Sadly, today many girls and women suffer from abusive power and sexual exploitation and are forced into a way of life that they would not have chosen for themselves.

Pray for those being trafficked or at risk of being exploited.  Pray that those who engage in the exploitation of others will recognize the devastating impact of their actions and stop. Pray for our governments, law enforcement agencies,  and, organizations working to combat sexual exploitation. Pray for protection for Indigenous women and girls in particular. Pray for wisdom for those working for change.
