Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
Sexual exploitation exists in Canada…and the average age of recruitment is 13.5 years old.
Children, women, and men are being commodified for the purpose of sexual service. The trafficker/exploiter preys upon the vulnerable to sell a sexual service for their own benefit. The Criminal Intelligence Service Canada estimates that a Canadian victim of sex trafficking earns approximately $280,000/year for her exploiter.
There is also an alarming over-representation of Aboriginal women and girls in Canada who are being sexually exploited and trafficked. An increased risk exists due to the impact of colonialism on Aboriginal societies; where vulnerability rises with family violence, childhood abuse, poverty, homelessness, race and gender-based discrimination, lack of education, migration, and substance addiction.1
Defend Dignity seeks to act as a catalyst for individuals and churches to end sexual exploitation in Canada, and is actively supporting initiatives which are educating the vulnerable, and assisting survivors who are making a life change.
Join the initiative! Together, we can end sexual exploitation in Canada.
Pray for people who are being sexually exploited or who are at risk of being exploited. Pray that those who engage in the exploitation of others will recognize the devastating impact of their actions and stop. Pray for our governments, law enforcement agencies, and organizations working to combat sexual exploitation.
